John Rawlinson has trained at the Cheltenham School of Fine Art under Viv Ayres; the Pegasus School of Art, Stroud, under Sue Lawrence; the Brewery Arts Centre, Cirencester under Refna Hamey; and with David Thistlethwaite in his private studio in Gloucestershire.
He has also studied under Francis Pratt at the Art School of Castelnau de Montmiral and with Alex Fowler NEAC and Arthur Neal NEAC.
John lives in Gloucestershire and holds an MA in Modern History from Oxford University and has a PGCE from Bristol University.
In 2018 he held a one man show at The Old Brompton Gallery in London. In February 2020 he held a one man show at The 5 Blends Gallery in Cambridge.
When not painting, John has worked variously in a bank, a school, an antiques shop and a timber yard.
